Painless Dentistry

We leverage cutting edge technology and proprietary techniques achieve unprecedented minimization of discomfort associated with dental procedures

Our Process

Local anesthesia is applied before procedures that could otherwise be painful. Some patients are terrified of the injection required for the administration of local anesthesia. At Metro dental, we have developed techniques and tools to eliminate or drastically reduce the pain associated with this process. Here is how we do it:

  1. Before the injection is applied (using smallest possible needle), we apply topical anesthesia which numbs the first layer of the gum, thereby eliminating any pain associated with the initial prick.
  2. We use a device that causes the application area of the gum to gently vibrate. This interferes with the transmission of "pain" sensory information between nerve cells in the gum and the brain. This secondary sensory activity (vibration) subdues the perception of pain caused by the needle prick.
  3. Forcefully pushing anesthesia into gum tissue can be painful so we use a gum massage technique that evenly distributes the anesthesia into the gum tissue as it is very slowly injected

Sedation Dentistry

At Metro Dental, we don’t want your fear of dental treatment to be a factor. Therefore, in addition to a gentle and friendly treatment style, we also uses sedation dentistry for the treatment of highly anxious or frightened patients.

What is Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry involves treatment of apprehensive or uncooperative patients under the effect of a sedative agent. During sedation, you will be drowsy, but you will be conscious enough to respond to instructions. The best part is that you once your treatment has been completed, you won’t remember anything about it. So, no bad memories!Depending on the expected duration of the procedure, different types and levels of sedation are available at Metro Dental:
  • Inhalation Sedation – in this form of sedation, you will be asked through a mask containing a mixture of nitrous oxide gas and oxygen. Nitrous oxide or laughing gas provides a mild sedative effect which remains while you’re inhaling it. As soon as the supply of nitrous gas is discontinued, the effect of sedation will go away immediately. After nitrous gas inhalation sedation, you can drive yourself back to your office or home.
  • Oral Sedation – for a deeper level of sedation, we will give you an oral sedative medicine which you will take the night before, and then once you arrive for your appointment. The effect of oral sedation is more pronounced than inhalation. This type of sedation is reserved for more anxious or apprehensive patients, and the effect of this inhalation tend to last longer. For oral sedation, you should be accompanied by a family member who can drive you home

Luxury Amenities

Freshly baked warm cookies at checkout, warm blankets and towels during your procedure, creamy milkshakes and smoothies to soothe your gums after your procedure, and cafe quality cappuccinos, sodas and juices while you wait to be seen by the doctor. From the interior design, reminiscent of a 5-star hotel lobby, to the smell of freshly baked cookies and Starbucks quality cappuccinos and milk shakes, we've made every efforts to titillate all your senses.

How we Designed an Amazing Patient Experience Tailored to the 5 Senses

Smell

When you walk into Metro Dental, there will be an aroma of freshly baked cookies. This is not a "fresh cookie scent" made in a lab in China and sold at target, it is actually the smell of real cookies baking in a real oven. This might seem minor but for some, this sensory information could resonate with pleasant memories of time spent with mom or grandma, thereby causing subtle changes in one's mood. Now compare the smell of freshly baked cookies to the scent of the disinfectant you normally smell at a clinic or the dentist. Also, we do not just mask clinical scents, we use disinfectants that have a more of neutral scent or no scent at all.

Taste

Who does not like the taste of a warm decadent cookie fresh from the oven. We don't just bake cookies in the office for the aroma, you will get a large free cookie on your way out so you can put your newly cleaned teeth to work; just don't forget to brush and floss. Those of you thinking "what if I just had a root canal and cannot chew just yet, giving me a warm cookie is just mean". We could not agree with you more which is why we also have $10,000 self serve smoothie and milkshake machine so you can get free smoothies to soothe your gums in the event you had a more invasive procedure.

We also use isolyte, which is a device that isolates specific areas of the mouth being worked on my the dentist, thereby preventing the tongue from being exposed to potentially unpleasant tastes and excessive fluids.

Sound

When you walk into Metro Dental, you will hear soothing music (my music as well as other similar relaxing music) softly playing from the overhead speakers. This kind of music (regardless of your taste in music) provides a calming effect when played softly in the background. If you like the music, just ask and we'll give you a free CD on your way out.

Sight

Watch your favorite shows on Netflix on overhead TVs during your treatment. The interior design for Metro dental was done by a world renowned designer who has designed 5-star hotels across the world. The colors, decor, and furniture carefully selected to create an environment that looks nothing like a dentist but more like a 5-star hotel lobby or a fancy coffee shop.

Touch

When it is time to go to the dentist, I am sure you are not thinking of the soft feel of our designer furniture. Most people think of pain the minute a dentist is mentioned; however, dentistry does not have to be painful. My wife (Dr. Lynn) once injected my gum to numb me for a procedure and I did not feel a thing so I asked her exactly what she did. She has developed a technique using topical anesthetic, gum massage and a special thin vibrating needle that practically eliminates the pain of the numbing process. Our warm towels and neck pillows add that extra level of comfort you deserve.

Cutting Edge Technology

We use 3-d imagery to show you what the results of the procedure will look like. We also use the latest advances in technology to minimize discomfort associated with dental procedures.

Digital Imagery

All dental offices use x-ray technology for diagnosis. At metro Dental, we take it a step further by using hi-tech imaging technology. not just for diagnosis but also to ensure that the patient has a clear visual of the condition in question as well as its progression. Here are some of the digital imaging tools we use:
  • Intraoral Cameras: Intraoral cameras are cameras used by dentists or doctors to show a patient the interior of their mouth, as an alternative to using a mirror. Lurking beneath the surface of your teeth there may be many important details your dentist won’t be able to spot without the help of technology. A dental intraoral camera provides our dentists with an upclose look at exactly what matters most. Used both during procedures and as a way to assess the condition of your mouth and teeth, intraoral cameras help us spot problems before they arise or to perform a quick intervention as they develop.
  • Smile Simulation: For patients interested in cosmetic procedures, we used advanced software to create a simulation of

    Kids

    1. Regular Checkups – during regular checkup visits, Dr. Lynn will carefully examine your child’s teeth for cavities or gum problems. In addition, she will also look for underlying anomalies which may cause problems in the future.
    2. Parental Education – a major component of our pediatric dental services is the education of parents regarding their child’s dental health. Dr. Lynn educates the parents regarding the correct method of brushing their child’s teeth and diet which is good for their child’s dental and overall health.
    3. Teeth Fillings – children often get their teeth front teeth chipped or fractured because of accidents or teeth cavities. In these cases, Dr. Lynn will restore your child’s tooth with tooth-colored composite fillings.
    4. Pulpotomy – in some cases, the pulp tissue inside the milk teeth becomes inflamed and causes pressure to develop inside the tooth. If this happens, we will remove the inflamed pulp tissue to relieve pain and discomfort. This procedure is known as pulpotomy. Dental Sealants – to prevent your child’s teeth from cavities, Dr. Lynn will apply thin plastic coatings on the chewing surfaces on your child’s teeth. These coatings are known as dental sealants.
    5. Fluoride Therapy – when children come to us for a routine checkup visit, we will apply a fluoride varnish on their teeth. Fluoride varnishes and gels have been shown to make teeth stronger and more resistant to the development of cavities.
    6. Space Maintainers – in case your child loses a milk tooth prematurely, the neighboring teeth slowly start to take up this space, creating difficulties for the successor permanent tooth to erupt in its proper place. To prevent this, Dr. Lynn places a space maintainer in the gap created by a lost tooth. Once the permanent successor starts erupting normally, the space maintainer is removed.

    Cosmetic

If you have any cosmetic dental problems, here’s how we can help you:
    • Teeth Stains
Dr. Lynn will remove  stains with a professional teeth whitening procedure, which involves the use of a potent bleaching agent to chemically dissolve the stains.  In the case you have permanently stained teeth which cannot be removed through bleaching, Dr. Lynn will use porcelain or composite veneers to hide the cosmetic defects.
    • Chipped or Cracked Teeth
If you have cracked or chipped teeth, then we have several options for you at Metro Dental. In case the damage is small, Dr. Lynn will restore the tooth with a tooth-colored composite filling. For larger teeth defects, veneers or porcelain crowns are suitable.
    • Single Tooth Replacement – for replacing a single missing tooth, dental implant supported crowns are the most functional, aesthetic and durable option. Alternatively, dental bridges can also be used.
    • Multiple Missing Teeth – for multiple missing teeth, we offer dental implant supported overdentures or bridges. Alternatively, conventional partial dentures are also a cost-effective and reliable option.
    • Replacement of all Missing Teeth – when it comes to replacing all missing teeth in a jaw, an all-on-four implant-supported prosthesis provides the best result. Alternatively, conventional complete removable dentures can also be used for this purpose. The removable complete dentures not only replace missing teeth, but they also restore the facial aesthetics and your smile.
    • Crooked or Misaligned Teeth
If you seek treatment for your misaligned teeth, we offer Invisalign. This orthodontic treatment utilize transparent removable aligners which are worn for at least 22 hours each day. When they are worn, they exert forces on the teeth and move them into the desired position. Each set of aligners is usually replaced with a new one after about two weeks.Whatever your cosmetic issue, Metro Dental has a solution for you at Metro Dental.

    • Crooked or Misaligned Teeth
    • Why Teeth Become Loose?
Our teeth are embedded in specially designed tooth sockets present inside the jaw bones. However, they are not completely joined with the bone. Rather, they are suspended in the tooth socket with different periodontal fibers that act as “shock absorbers” and prevent damage to the tooth and underlying bone in case of an impact or heavy force.Under normal circumstances, the gums and these periodontal fibers keep the teeth firmly suspended and there is little movement of the teeth. However, in certain cases when the gum tissue, periodontal fibers or the underlying bone is damaged, teeth become mobile. If the condition is not corrected timely, the mobility gradually increases and ultimately the tooth falls off. What are the Causes of Loose Teeth?
    • Gum and Periodontal Problems – this is one of the most common causes of increased tooth mobility. Advanced gum or periodontal tissue inflammation results in severe and irreversible damage to the jaw bone and periodontal fibers. As a result, the teeth become mobile. You can learn more about gum disease here.
    • Pregnancy and Hormonal Changes – during pregnancy, the high levels of estrogen and progesterone hormones weaken the attachment between gums, teeth and the jaw bone by loosening the fibers which hold them together. Unlike advanced periodontal disease, this is a temporary situation and it goes away as soon as the hormones come back to normal. However, if you should not chance and visit us immediately if you feel that your teeth have become loose during pregnancy.
    • Osteoporosis – this is a condition in which there is a significant reduction in the volume and mass of the bones in the body, making them porous and weak. Osteoporosis affects both men and women, however, women at a higher risk. According to the National Institutes of Health, women with are 3 time more at risk of having loose teeth and suffering from tooth loss due to osteoporosis.
    • Trauma – even if you have excellent oral hygiene, direct trauma or blow to one of your teeth can damage the periodontal ligament which anchors your teeth to the gums and jaw bone. This is why teeth often become loose after trauma or injury.

    Treatment Options

The first step is to visit immediately. Dr. Lynn will perform detail clinical examination of your teeth to evaluate the cause of your tooth mobility. If your teeth have become mobile, she will give your oral hygiene instructions and perform professional scaling and root planing (deep cleaning), if required. Similarly, if the underlying cause is hormonal changes, she may refer you to your gynecologist. In the case of osteoporosis, Dr. Lynn will refer you to your primary healthcare physician for further management. Finally, in case of a trauma, the loose tooth is usually splinted with the neighboring teeth until it becomes firmly anchored again. If the tooth cannot be saved, it will be extracted and cosmetic options such as single or multiple teeth replacement options will be considered

  • Bleeding Gums

    Bleeding Gums

What are the Causes of Gum Bleeding?
    • Gum Disease – gum bleeding can be a sign or moderate to advanced stages of gum disease. If the condition is not treated timely, it can cause loosening or even loss of teeth.
    • Bleeding Disorders – some disorders, such as low blood platelet count or deficiency of clotting factors can result in bleeding from gums.
    • Trauma – gum can also start bleeding as a result of trauma or when sharp objects are used with excessive force as toothpicks.
Treatment Options The first step in the treatment of bleeding gums is an oral examination to diagnose the underlying cause. We will perform a prophylaxis (teeth cleaning) or a Scaling and Root Planing (deep cleaning)  to remove plaque deposits and reduce gum inflammation. If the cause of bleeding is a bleeding disorder, Dr. Lynn will refer you to your doctor for further treatment. Finally, trauma associated gum bleeding is treated surgically to stop the bleeding.

    • Damaged Teeth – If the cause of your toothache is cavities, damaged filling or accidental pulp exposure, Dr. Lynn will restore the tooth with a suitable filling material.
    • Sensitive Teeth – for sensitive teeth, the sensitive area is covered with a suitable filling. If required, Dr. Lynn may apply topical fluoride to restore the strength of the dental enamel and to prevent sensitivity. She may also apply dental sealants to children who are at a higher risk of getting teeth cavities.
    • Pain due to Gross Tooth Damage – when dental pain is caused due to exposure of the underlying enamel following gross damage to a tooth, Dr. Lynn will restore the tooth with porcelain or metal-fused to porcelain crowns.

  • Bad breath

    Bad breath

What are the Causes of Bad Breath?
    • Poor Oral Hygiene – this is the most common reason for having bad breath. When you ignore regular oral hygiene measures, food particles start adhering to your teeth in the form of plaque and tartar. Petrification of these food particles coupled with the bacterial products results in the development of bad breath.
    • Foods with Strong Smell – some foods like onions and garlic are known for their strong smell and can cause bad breath.
    • Smoking and Alcohol – both tobacco and alcohol result in a significant reduction in the flow of saliva in the oral cavity. Because of its decreased volume, the saliva is unable to clean the oral cavity properly, leading to bad breath.
    • Nasal Problems – problems related to the upper or lower respiratory tract can also manifest in the form of bad breath.
    • Gastric Problems – in some cases, the reason behind bad breath is an underlying gastric problem like GERD or excessive acidity.

    • How is Bad Breath Treated?
    • Oral Hygiene Improvement – if the cause of bad breath is poor oral hygiene, we will provide you with detailed instructions regarding oral hygiene maintenance such as the proper technique of brushing and flossing. Our dentist, Dr. Lynn will perform scaling and root planning to remove any plaque and tartar deposits from your teeth which are causing bad breath.
    • Dietary Management – if Dr. Lynn diagnoses that the reason behind your bad breath is due to an intake of foods with a strong odor, she will give you dietary instructions to get rid of this problem.
    • Medical intervention – for medical problems which can cause bad breath, we will refer you to your general physician for the treatment of your underlying nasal or gastric problem.
