Dental Bridge
A bridge is a fixed appliance which is used for replacing missing natural teeth. Unlike the dentures which are removable and gain support from the underlying jaw bone and soft tissues, bridges remain fixed to the adjacent natural teeth or implants. As a result, they offer superior chewing efficiency, durability, and aesthetics in comparison to the conventional removable dentures.
Who can Benefit from Dental Bridges?
Dental bridges are an excellent tooth replacement option in the following situations:
-
Replacing Old Dentures – bridges are an excellent choice if you want to get rid of your uncomfortable and unaesthetic dentures.
-
When Dental Implants are Contra-indicated – undoubtedly, dental implants are the best option for replacing missing teeth. However, in cases when patients cannot afford or are medically unfit for getting implants, fixed bridges are an excellent alternative.
How are Bridges Prepared?
Preparation of teeth bridges is carried out in the following steps at Metro Dental:
-
Initial Consultation and Treatment Planning – during your first visit, the doctor will examine your teeth and evaluate study models and x-ray images of your teeth. This is done to ascertain whether you are a suitable candidate for getting bridges, and to prepare a customized treatment plan.
-
Tooth Preparation – during the next appointment, the doctor will prepare the teeth which will support the bridge. This is done by removing a thin outer enamel layer of the supporting teeth, to create room for the attachment of the bridge.
-
Taking Digital Tooth Impressions – next, the doctor will take impressions of your teeth using a hi-tech digital scan and send them to the laboratory for preparing the bridges.
-
Attaching the Bridge – in the next appointment, the doctor will check the prepared bridge for fit and aesthetics by placing it on the supporting teeth without bonding them. When you and Dr. Lynn are satisfied, she will attach the bridge to the abutment teeth by using adhesive cement.
