If you’re fed up of your old dentures which do not fit anymore, and you’re looking for a reliable and long-lasting replacement option for your missing teeth, then dental implants at Metro Dental are your best option.
What is an Implant?
An implant is a screw-shaped fixture which is surgically inserted inside the jaw bone. The implant serves as an artificial tooth root which provides a firm foundation for the attachment of a suitable prosthesis like a crown, bridge or an overdenture which is used for replacing missing teeth.
Who can benefit from Dental Implants?
Dental implants are an ideal option for you for replacing missing teeth if you have any of the following cosmetic or restorative dental problems:
Single Tooth Replacement – for replacing a single missing tooth, an aesthetically pleasing porcelain crown is placed over an implant once healing of the surgical site has taken place.
Multiple Teeth Replacement – a single implant can be used for replacing two or more adjacent missing teeth with implant-supported overdentures or fixed bridges.
Full Mouth Rehabilitation – dental implants are an excellent alternative to removable complete dentures. The good news is that you do not need one implant for each missing tooth. Rather, at Metro Dental, we use only implants in each jaw for supporting a complete fixed bridge. This type of prosthesis is known as an all-on-four implant supported fixed bridge.
Complete Smile Makeover – if you’re not happy with your smile, then Dr. Lynn will give you the smile of your dreams with a complete smile makeover with dental implants and other cosmetic restorative options like veneers and teeth whitening.
How are Dental Implants Placed?
Placement of dental implants at Metro Dental is carried out in multiple steps:
Assessment – when you visit us for replacing your missing teeth, Dr. Lynn will perform a detailed examination of your teeth. She will also examine study models and x-ray images of your teeth and jaw bone to prepare a detailed treatment plan which will be fully customized according to your specific dental needs. At this stage, Dr. Lynn will also advise regarding dental procedures which need to be carried out before implant placement such as fillings, tooth extractions or sinus lift procedures.
Implant Insertion – during your next visit, Dr. Lynn will administer local anesthesia to make you pain-free and relaxed. In the case of highly apprehensive and frightened patients, Dr. Lynn may also choose to perform the procedure under conscious sedation. Once you are completely pain-free, Dr. Lynn will make an incision over the soft tissues overlying the jaw bone where the implant needs to be inserted and raise a soft tissue flap.
After exposing the underlying bone, Dr. Lynn will insert the implant into the bone after creating a hole in it. She will attach a temporary prosthesis to the implant which restores function and aesthetics while the definitive prosthesis is being prepared, Finally, the flap will be sutured back into its place.
Attaching the Prosthesis – after healing of the surgical site has taken place, which usually takes about 6 months, Dr. Lynn will attach a suitable prosthesis to the implants for replacing the missing teeth. In some, cases Dr. Lynn may choose to attach the prosthesis immediately after implant insertion. This is known as immediate implant loading.
What are the Advantages of Dental Implants?
If you’re wondering why dental implants are the best option for replacing missing natural teeth, then here are a few reasons for you:
Durability – dental implants are prepared from high-quality titanium alloys which are not only safe for use in the oral cavity, but they are also durable and long lasting. If properly looked after, dental implant-supported prostheses can serve for a lifetime.
Convenience – with dental implant supported prostheses, you can enjoy all your favorite foods, unlike the dentures, where you cannot eat hard or sticky foods as they can dislodge them.
Tooth and Bone Conservation – when fixed bridges are used for tooth replacement, adjacent natural teeth need to be ground to create space for the attachment of the prosthesis. Similarly, when dentures are used for tooth replacement, they exert a direct pressure to the underlying bone which accelerates bone loss and resorption. These problems have been eliminated with dental implants. A single implant can be used for replacing one to three teeth, without the need for any removal of natural tooth structure. The problem of bone resorption is also eliminated with dental implants as they promoted bone formation around them through a process known as osteointegration.
Aesthetics – dental implants allow for the fabrication of highly aesthetic and durable prosthesis which not only restore dental function but also provide natural aesthetics.
Dental implant-supported prostheses look and feel just like your own teeth. So, if you want to enjoy a Hollywood smile while being able to enjoy your favorite foods, then dental implants at Metro Dental should be your first choice.
