What is a Root Canal?
Inside every tooth is the dental pulp, which consists of nerves and blood supply. Its main role is in the growth of the tooth but it also helps detect changes in temperature. If your tooth pulp becomes infected, bacteria will begin to grow within the tooth. This will cause the pulp to become inflamed, potentially causing a severe toothache. Root canal treatment removes the infected pulp and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Since the root canal removes the nerves (contained in the pulp), the pain is eliminated.
